Get Involved … Where Can I Serve?

God’s Word to us in Ephesians 2:8,10 reads:  “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith; and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God…For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

We praise our Savior for His blood-bought gifts of forgiveness and faith.  We also praise Him for the privilege to put that faith into action through Christian serving.

The paragraphs that follow describe some of the opportunities for serving at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Prayer Group

This group is open to anyone who wants to pray together.  The ministry of prayer is serious to our COS family. During Sunday School or Bible studies we pray.  In addition, we pray during the worship service, followed by prayer circles and other groups praying for individual needs.  We believe in healing, laying on of hands and anointing with oil. There is a prayer chain and group of prayer warriors who meet every Tuesday morning  at 10:30 AM during the school year and monthly during the summer months.  We email, phone, visit and send cards of encouragement. Our Sunday bulletin has a prayer list. If you are interested in serving in any of these capacities, or wish to initiate a prayer request, please contact Whitney at the church office (616) 738-0100.

Music

God-honoring worship is something we strive for.  In addition to the organists, many of our church members participate in our music programs either as instrumentalists, vocalists or hand bell ringers. These volunteers are an important part of the music ministry of Christ Our Savior, using their talents and gifts to bring joy and the thankfulness to our corporate worship – all to glorify God.

Ushers

The usher team at Christ Our Savior fills an important role. They are involved in helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Christ Our Savior. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We have a high-tech sound and screen system and all of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website in audio formats. In addition to this website we also maintain an active Facebook presence for additional church communication.

Stephen Ministry

The Stephen Ministry program of lay care-giving comes under the direction of it’s national office in St. Louis, MO. Those who prepare and serve in this way are lay members of the congregation who receive 50 hours of “training” in various care-giving skills, methods, and resources. Each commissioned helper is then eligible to be assigned one-to-one for giving care to another person who is faced with a new life challenge or difficulty.  The Stephen ministers also participate regularly in sessions of supervision and continuing education so that they can give the most helpful care possible to those who need their support.

Greeters

A team of greeters welcome our members and visitors each Sunday. They are a very important part of our “warm and caring” church.  Volunteer your time by contacting Karen Nunheimer at 616-994-9558.
